Career Navigation Event, 3-11-2010, on problems of current career navigation system
(00:50)
We are being extremely inefficient with our labor market right now, with our human capital. We are wasting resources by not having a career navigation system that helps workers identify the career jobs more quickly and career development that helps employers find qualified workers more quickly. The “system,” and I put that in quotes, we have today, is extremely inefficient, and we simply cannot afford this any longer for our economy. We are in a new type of economy, yet we continue to use the same old methods and tools of helping people connect to jobs and navigate their careers. This is why we call for a new approach to a career navigation system, and it’s why we call for recommendations that the federal government should enact because this is a national economic imperative.
