They Like Us.
For the first time since the BBC World Service poll was started in 2005, America's influence in the world is seen as more positive than negative. The improved scores for the US coincided directly with the presidential elections. However, it wasn't enough to beat out 2009's winner, Germany, who is viewed the most favorably of any country. [BBC]

The New Swing Voters? WWE Fans.
A new study among hundreds of thousands of Americans examines the correlation between viewers' favorite sports and their voting habits. And, the survey shows, most dedicated sports watchers are much more likely to vote with the GOP than they are to vote with Dems. The survey had some fun little nuggets, among them:
"GOPers are most likely to watch the PGA Tour, college football and NASCAR, according to the study. Golf fans told researchers they were much more likely to vote than NASCAR fans say they are. Meanwhile, Dems hold the largest advantages among basketball fans, both those who watch the NBA and the WNBA. And fans of World Wrestling Entertainment are also much more likely to favor Dems -- if they vote. Wrestling fans are less likely to cast ballots than any other sports fans." [National Journal]

Red, White and Rainbow
We the people, ready to form a more open-minded union? The latest "60 Minutes"/Vanity Fair poll found that half of Americans - a full 50% - say they would support an openly gay president of the United States, while 55% would be okay with an openly gay Supreme Court Justice and 56% said they're cool with a gay Secretary of State. And we're even more open when it comes to our sports figures: Sixty-one percent said they'd back a gay commissioner of baseball, and 62 percent said they could support an openly gay quarterback in the Super Bowl. House GOP Trouble
The House GOP might want to rethink that whole running on repeal business. In a new poll out this week, their supportis down 7 points since the passage of health care, leaving them sitting at a 21 percent favorable rating. For now, the Dems and Obama looks to have received a small bump from passage, and a narrowing of the intensity gap between the two parties. November is still a long way off, but those "sky is falling" prognosticators could end up being way off. [Andrew Sullivan]

Fun with Polls
More than 90 percent of tea partiers believe the U.S. is "verging more toward socialism than capitalism, the federal government is trying to control too many aspects of private life and more decisions should be made at the state level." Yet, 70% of tea partiers those want a federal government that fosters job creation. So less socialism, more government? We don't get it. [Bloomberg]

Can We Fix It? Maybe We Can!
In the latest CNN/Opinion Research survey, American’s overwhelmingly confirm that they feel the gridlock inside the beltway is a sign that government is broken. But, there is a glimmer of hope – most feel there is a chance that things can be fixed.
Eighty-six percent of people questioned in the poll say that our system of government is broken, with 14 percent saying no. Of that 86 percent, 81 percent say that the government can be fixed, with 5 percent saying it's beyond repair.
The number of Americans who think the government is broken has grown eight points since 2006. The significant increase could be due, in large part, to the Teaparty movement. "That increase is highest among higher-income Americans and people who live in rural areas," said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. [CNN]

WHAT DO GEORGE AND ABE HAVE IN COMMON?
It is said that George Washington never told a lie, but a new poll found that the majority of the public don't believe the folklore. As the United States marks its first president's birthday, a new poll found that 74 percent of those polled think Washington *did* lie to the public while he served as president. The CNN/Opinion Corporation survey also found that 71 percent think that Abraham Lincoln, known as "Honest Abe," also lied to the public while serving in the White House. (In case you don't know, today marks the 278th anniversary of Washington's birth.) [CNN]

Booing the Supreme Court
The latest Washington Post/ ABC News survey finds that 8 in 10 Americans disapprove of the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision. Quick refresher: the decision overturned the provision of McCain-Feingold barring corporations and unions from paying for political ads just before an election. The poll also found that 72% want Congress to act on it in order to preserve campaign finance laws. Interestingly, the poll reveals relatively little difference of opinion on the issue among Democrats (85% opposed), Republicans (76%) and independents (81%).[Washington Post]

Polling Dr. Love
Valentines Day may be over, but many Americans are still feeling all lovey-dovey according to a new poll out this week from CBS News. Nine out of every 10 married Americans say they'd do it all over again, though, interestingly, more men - 95% - said they'd re-marry their wives than women did their husbands (only 85% there.) Men were also more likely to buy into the idea of love at first sight - 47% vs. 44%. Men and women agreed, however, on what makes a successful relationship - it's respect, followed by trust and a sense of humor. [CBS News]
