Quote Of The Day
"As I said to Nikki this morning, 'Hang in there. I've been there. Any lies told about you will strengthen your resolve to clean up political and media corruption. You and your supporters will grow stronger through things like this.'" -- Sarah Palin backing up South Carolina Republican gubernatorial hopeful Nikki Haley, accused today of carrying on an inappropriate physical relationship with a South Carolina blogger. Haley denies the affair. [CNN]

Huh? We Never Said That!
Top GOP leaders are fleeing from the phrase "Drill, Baby, Drill" as fast as their feet can take them. GOP Whip Jon Kyl (R., AZ) yesterday said, "That was not a Senate Republican phrase...I think there was a candidate that used that." (Poor Sarah, forgotten already?) Sen. Pat Roberts (R., OK) said, "I don't know about the slogan. The slogan was what, two, three years ago and basically we had a lot of opposition to it anyway." [The Hill]

Palin vs. Founding Fathers
- Sarah Palin, speaking to a women's conference in Kentucky: "Praying for true spiritual awakening to overcome deterioration. That is where God wants us to be. Lest anyone try to convince you that God should be separated from the state, our Founding Fathers, they were believers. And George Washington, he saw faith in God as basic to life." [The Plum Line]
- The Bill of Rights: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." [National Archives]
- Thomas Jefferson: "Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man & his god, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, thus building a wall of separation between church and state." Maverick Rules
Critics of the Sarah Palin tried unsuccessfully to find out how much the California State University’s nonprofit foundation paid for an appearance the former governor will be making for a fundraiser in June. As it turns out, two sneaky students found Palin’s contract - in a dumpster. While her fee was not disclosed, some of her requests included either first class travel or transportation on “a Lear 60 or larger.” Also, “two bottles of water and bendable straws.” Got to have the bendable straws. Come Speak To Us
If you want Sarah Palin to come speak at your event, you're going to need a lot more than an active audience. A speaking contract for the former governor was found in a dumpster outside Cal State, and required a private aircraft that “MUST BE a Lear 60 or larger” for West Coast Events and “a Hawker 800 or Larger” for East Coast events. The lecturn must have two unopened bottles of still water and ‘bendable straws.’ On, and audience questions must be pre-screened. [ABC]

You Betchya!
In a a New York Times article on Sarah Palin published yesterday, a spokesperson for Palin had some interesting things to say to those who have criticized her "Real American Stories" TV show that airs on Fox News Channel.
"It's not the kind of thing that's going to excite you guys on the East Coast, but everyone else is dying to hear stories like these," the spokesperson, who was not authorized to speak on the record but was authorized to slam the East Coast, stated. [Yglesias]

Levi’s Back in Town
Levi Johnston's bank account needs some attention again. This time, no naked photo shoots, but he is now pitching his own reality series, in which he plans to introduce viewers to his state. The producer of Johnston’s “docu-series” describes it as the “‘Jersey Shore’ on ice.” Great. By all accounts it seems like there is a fight brewing in the extended Palin family. Says the Johnston’s producer: “If I could wave my magic wand, I would want it to premiere at the exact same hour, minute and second as Sarah Palin’s does.” [Washington Post]

In Case You Missed It
"In these volatile times when we are a nation at war, now more than ever is when we need a commander-in-chief, not a constitutional law professor lecturing us from a lectern."-- Sarah Palin in a speech to the Tea Party movement about the greatness of the Constitution. [Think Progress]

What’s The Line Between Irresponsible And Outright Dangerous?
Inciting Violence
Right-wing extremists have gotten louder and more menacing in the past week or so, with gun imagery at the tea party rallies, threatening militias arming for battle, assassination threats on Twitter and violent attacks on the home offices of lawmakers. Sarah Palin's response? The former governor of Alaska Tweeted her followers with the following: "Don't Retreat, Instead - RELOAD!" [Twitter]

RESIGNATION
Meghan Stapleton, Sarah Palin's senior adviser and spokeswoman, resigned earlier today to spend more time with her husband and 2-year-old daughter, Isabella. Stapleton has been one of Palin's most trusted aides and friends since she was picked as GOP presidential nominee John McCain’s running mate. The former adviser had also been one of only a handful of aides and trusted contacts maintained by Palin through her transition from governor to author and right-wing personality. [Politico]

SLAMMING SARAH PART DEUX
The actress who lent her voice to a character with Down syndrome on a recent episode of Fox's "Family Guy" is slamming Sarah Palin for having no sense of humor. Said Andrea Fay Friedman, the actress who herself has Down syndrome: "I guess former Governor Palin does not have a sense of humor. I thought the line 'I am the daughter of the former governor of Alaska' was very funny. I think the word is 'sarcasm.' In my family we think laughing is good. My parents raised me to have a sense of humor and to live a normal life." (In case you missed it, in Sunday's episode, a teenaged female character with Down syndrome told another character that "my mom is the former governor of Alaska." Palin, whose 22-month-old son, Trig, has the genetic disorder, said on her Facebook page Monday that she was too angry to offer a coherent response. [CNN]
