Farm Team
In the wake of the passage of the Arizona immigration law, this is an interesting article about one family’s fight to save their family farm. The Department of Homeland Security wants to buy the land in northern Vermont and do an extensive, $8 million renovation because it says the border crossing provides easy access for terrorists. But the family says they need to land to raise hay for their cattle. Residents say the plan is another example of unnecessary government spending because the checkpoint is used mostly by ‘locals crossing to visit relatives, play hockey, or shop.” At its busiest, about three car go through the Morses Line check point every hour. The government has told the family if they don’t sell their property, it will be seized under eminent domain. [Boston Globe]

Things Not Making Us Feel Very Safe Today
Anyone who's watched the MTV hit pseudo reality show The Hills or picked up a People magazine in the last year has heard of Spencer Pratt, the attention-hungry better half of plastic surgery star Heidi Montag. Until now, we've seen Spencer do little more than down shots and mug for the cameras, but he's announced he's leaving reality television to focus on his true passion - national cyber security. Pratt says after hearing President Obama speak about the security dangers of cyber threats, he decided to join the fight and will be working for the American Defense Enterprises in their cyber security division instead. NO-FLY LIST DOUBLES
Since the arrest of Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdulmuttalab in December of 2009 , the no-fly list has nearly doubled from about 3,400 people to about 6,000 people, according to a senior intelligence official. Part of the reason the list was expanded was to add people associated with al-Qaeda's Yemen branch and others from Yemen and Nigeria with ties to Abdulmuttalab. The no-fly list has remained one of the government's most public counterterrorism tools since the September 11th attacks in 2001. [USA T]

In Case of Zombie Invasion
A Louisiana sheriff plans to train a local milita in case of a terrorist attack or civic unrest. He will arm volunteers with shotguns, riot shields, batons, and a .50-caliber machine gun mounted on a "war wagon," as part of "Operation Exodus." While he says the recruits will be sent to protect food from grocery stores, gas from gas stations, and other crucial local resources, should the situation demand it, we're envisioning Dawn of the Dead in Shreveport.
